Washing your face shouldn’t be that hard right? Well maybe, if you’re doing it right.
It can seem like the least complicated part of your beauty routine, but many times people end up doing all the wrong things when it comes to scrubbing their pores. Don’t be that gal!
Find out five of the biggest face-washing mistakes and how to avoid them:
1. Picking the wrong product
Don’t know if you’re using the wrong product or not? Well, if it’s not removing the dirt, makeup, and grime, but not stripping away too much of your skin’s natural oils or healthy cells then you’d better head out to find one that does the job. Look out for ones that will neither be too gentle, where you find yourself having to wash twice, nor too harsh where it makes your skin red and irritated.
2. Using the wrong water temperature
You know when people say to use hot water when washing your face? Yeah, they are wrong. The reality is that hot water doesn’t necessarily open your pores and cold water doesn’t actually close them. Your pores don’t have muscles to open and close, so while hot water may feel good on your skin, it can screw with your skin’s natural, protective oils. Your best bet is to use lukewarm as a happy medium.
3. Towel rubbing
Here’s a helpful hint: pat, don’t rub. While rubbing may feel really good, it tugs and pulls your skin, which puts your elastin at risk. Also, designate a soft towel just for drying your face so that other bacteria doesn’t find its way onto your pretty face.
4. Waiting to moisturize
Immediately after cleansing, you should apply moisturizers to maximize absorption and seal in moisture. if you choose to wait until your skin is completely dry, it will make it harder for the active ingredients to sink into your skin and can cause the skin to feel greasy or tacky. Don’t wait.
5. Over doing it
The common protocol for washing your face is to do it twice a day, anymore can irritate your skin which can lead to an overproduction of oil. Let’s say you didn’t wear makeup, sunscreen, or sweat too much one day, you can try skipping the cleanser for the night and just rinse with tepid water. Giving your skin a break from time to time is wise.
