Happy National Dog Day! In honor of our furry friends bringing so much into our lives, we’ve come up with the best reasons (besides cuddling and being so cute when they are begging) that you should have your dog be your training partner.
If you have an active pup, consider taking him or her out on the trails with you on your next run. Here’s why:
1. It’s safer: Sure, running alone can be soothing, but as women we often feel safer with someone by our side. And your dog is the perfect running buddy! Let’s say you trip and fall, it’s likely that your dog won’t run away from you in your time of need. He/she will stay with you till you catch your breath. Even if someone tries to harm you, your dog’s protective instincts might kick in. You’ll for sure feel a lot safer with them by your side.
2. It’s good bonding time: Let’s be real: dogs tend to need a lot of exercise—they probably enjoy running more than you do! Most of us are at work all day while our dogs are left alone. Choosing your pooch as your running partner can enhance the bonding time you two have. You’ll end up having an even closer relationship, while also getting the exercise you both need.
3. They keep you motivated: Another truth: When a dog wants to play or go outside, they usually don’t take no for an answer. That’s good for you because that will probably make you get your sometimes lazy butt out of bed or off the couch. They’ll be waiting by the door for you!
4. They make it fun: What activity isn’t fun with your dog? Ok, we can think of one thing, but for the most part everything is better with your furry companion. They get excited about everything from getting a treat to running around the yard. Especially when they know they are going outside, dogs get extremely happy, which will in turn make you happy too!
