Don’t let the cold put a damper on your morning workout routine!
We know it’s dark and chilly out these days, but instead of bypassing your daily run to stay snuggled up in bed we have some tips to help you up and at ’em in the morning:
1. Prep the night before
Don’t be so quick to give up getting to the gym just because you can’t find your socks or your favorite sports bra (it’s probably in the wash). To save time, choose to prep your workout gear the night before. It only takes a few minutes and helps avoid time wasted frantically searching for your early morning essentials. Lay out your outfit so you can just slip it on and go.
2. Gear up
The last thing you want to happen when you’re all ready to go is have your iPod battery be dead. If you’re like me, then your workout playlists are essential to your fitness routine. Get ahead by charging your electronics the night before, put your yoga mat or iPod armband by the door. This way, you’ll be all set to sweat it out!
3. Get to bed early
Sleep is necessary for our bodies to function properly (obviously, we just wanted to drill it into your head one more time). If you’re not a morning person, try setting your alarm to wake up to your favorite get up and groove song. If that doesn’t help, it may be your best bet to put your clock on the other side of the room to avoid hitting the snooze button nonstop.
4. Don’t forget to eat
Working out on an empty stomach is a huge no-no. It isn’t great for your metabolism or your energy levels, so to help, opt to make a little morning snack to have while getting ready. You could have a slice of whole-wheat toast with peanut butter or apple slices with cheese.
5. Pencil it in
If you have trouble getting to the gym, try grabbing your BFF to set up up a fitness date. If you know you have to meet them in the a.m, you’ll feel more motivated to get your butt out of bed. Plus, having a workout buddy is said to have many fitness benefits.
