Blogger Makeover Update: Linda Grant of NYCSingleMom.com

By Barbara Baez @BarbaraMBaez · On January 20, 2012

Blogger Linda Grant (NYCSingleMom.com) is one of our new “Makeover Bloggers”, and she’s working out with trainer Christine at Lucille Roberts 5th Ave. in Manhattan. This is her second week of training, and her attitude is fabulous! Here’s her update…

Week 2 – Getting My Butt Kicked

This week was my second week training with Christine. To say that I was less than enthusiastic is an understatement. How sad; it’s week two, and already I am demotivated. It certainly has nothing to do with Christine, who was fantastic at our first session. She was totally supportive, motivating, and complimentary about how great I was doing.

It’s that working out later in the day is not the best time for me, motivation-wise. I know this will make some people cringe, but I prefer working out earlier in the day. On the weekends, I like getting to the gym at 8 a.m. just to get it over with and be done. After a long day of work, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym. I would prefer to get into my sweats and settle in for the evening, especially now that temperature has dropped.

But, off I went. One thing about going to gym is that, once I get through the door, I feel like woo-hoo!–one hurdle crossed, and on to the next! The second session was definitely a tough workout. I don’t have a problem if I am working just legs or just arms. But working my legs and arms simultaneously? Lord, have mercy. It takes the “walking, talking, and chewing gum at the same time” feeling to a new level.

There is just something about jumping, squatting, and doing arm curls all together that can be so unbelievably complicated. My mind and body just go in opposite ways. I am a comedy routine without even trying.

As Christine put me through my paces, don’t think I was not peeking at the clock, as I kept thinking, “OMG, when is this torture going to be over?!” But I powered through knowing  that, as I was sweating profusely, I would be happy when it was over.

And I was HAPPY when it was over–but also thrilled that I had accomplished this session. Will the next session be easier? Maybe, but it’s okay if it’s as strenuous as this session because I know that I will feel as though I am making progress that I got through it and will feel good when it’s over.

And that’s not the end of the story; the session was so exhausting that I was in bed by 8:45 p.m. when usually I am in bed at midnight. Let’s hope my next session doesn’t send me to bed before I get to see the late night news.

My goal for this week is to get back to the gym at least two more times and to take a class.
