1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi my name is Roxanne Christakos and I’m from Brooklyn NY. I am a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2. I love spending time with my family especially my grand-babies. When I’m not, I enjoy dancing and doing fitness anything to get my heart pumping and my body moving! But my favorite past time would be going on leisurely rides with my husband on our Harley Davidson.
2. How did you become an instructor at Lucille Roberts?
My idea was not to become an instructor at first. During a difficult time in my life I realized that it was time to become healthy. So I decided to become a member at LR. As a result I fell in love with fitness and leading a healthy lifestyle, so much that the next thing I knew I was asked if I would be interested in becoming an instructor, a Zumba fitness instructor no less! I accepted, although a little nervous at first I began teaching classes and woah! Once I was on that podium it was exhilarating! The members and I fed off of each other and it was explosive! That’s when I realized that this was what I was meant to do.
3. What are some personal fitness goals you have?
Well at 50 years old I’m in the best personal shape I’ve been in all my life. My personal goals are to maintain my health and to age healthy and gracefully. It also wouldn’t hurt to be able to keep up if not beat my daughter and some of my younger members at push-ups.
4. What do you think is the best thing about Lucille Roberts?
The best thing about LR are all the wonderful friends I’ve made. I have a manager who has been not only encouraging but of great support. My co-workers are a pleasure to work with. It’s like a close fitness family. I also give credit to all the instructors that taught me so much while I was a member. But most importantly for me its seeing the lives and the transformations of the members.
5. What advice do you have for women who are trying to lose weight and meet their fitness goals?
I would tell them to refocus.To focus on becoming healthy and fit and not so much on the weight. That its about longevity and being able to live a happy healthy productive life. If they work on changing their mind set and focus from the inside out then anything is possible!
