What inspired you to become a trainer?
Before I became a trainer, I was an accountant. After having my son, I decided to switch careers. Becoming a personal trainer gave me not only the ability to have flexible hours but also the opportunity to do something I loved.
What’s the hardest part of your job?
This is truly a tough question because there is no hard part. I love every minute of it. I look forward to each day. My clients become like family. I often receive text messages with photos of the scale, showing how much weight they lost, or of a healthy dinner they may be eating. Sometimes I receive messages saying how they want to eat something bad, and I remind them how many calories it might be and what they have to do to burn it off. I receive calls when they are sad or when something exciting happened in their lives. Each and every client is important to me.
What do you love about your job?
I have to say everything. I love the people I work for and work with. They are like my second family. I love meeting new people. There is not a day that goes by that I am not laughing and smiling with a client. We immediately become friends even though at times they may hate me. I push them a bit harder then they push themselves, but I see their potential. I try to motivate them, but at the same time they inspire me all the time. They work hard, and they overcome every obstacle I put in front of them or life throws at them. They change not only physically but emotionally. They become strong and confident, and I love that I am a part of that!
How do you decide what exercises each client should do?
Each client is different. A consultation is always needed to see what their goals are and what their limitations might be.
Where do you get new ideas for training routines?
I get new ideas for training routines everywhere. Often clients ask if I stay up nights dreaming of new ways to torture them . Yes is the answer! Each session is different and challenging.
How do YOU work out?
I start each day with a morning run. I wake up early, get my sneakers on, and I am out the door. That starts my day. I like to challenge myself all the time. I believe you have to practice what you preach, so I make sure I do not miss workouts and that I eat right.
What’s your secret for helping clients get such great results?
No secret, it is just hard work. When you put in the effort, the results show. I give them the tools and teach them how to utilize them. It does not matter how old you are or what kind of shape you are in, we all have the potential!
What’s the best advice you have for women who are trying to lose weight?
Hire a trainer! I always hear, “I come to the gym, but I am not getting the results”. When you hire a trainer, you will know the difference and see the difference. It is the best thing you can do for yourself and for your family. You will have more energy; you will look better; and most importantly you will feel better. I am a mother of three, and I can relate to all the excuses. I will keep you motivated while challenging you physically, mentally, and emotionally.
