Let’s take a stroll down memory lane shall we? Recall those teenage years spending hours choosing the perfect picture day outfit only for it all to go down the drain because of one HUGE pimple. Yes, it’s painful for us to think about too.
Although those “teenibopper” years are behind us, those zits still pop up without notice now and then. So instead of going out and spending your paycheck on that weekly facial or costly store-bought tube, try using one of these at-home acne remedies:
Toothpaste:
To our surprise, this treatment actually works! This is because of the active ingredient sulfur in toothpaste, but not all are not safe to use. Stick to using the pastes that claim to whiten or prevent tarter for your teeth because they can cause redness or irritation on your face. All others should be used as a spot-treatment.
Oatmeal:
Sure, oatmeal is a delicious snack, but it has natural exfoliating and calming properties that make it a perfect face mask. Since oats have astringent effects, it works to clean up your pores and sooth your skin. All you have t do is blend 3/4 cup natural oatmeal and bring it to a boil with a cup of water. Cook for one to two minutes, let it cool, and then spread it over your face for 10 to 20 minutes.
Ibuprofen:
Not only does Ibuprofen get rid of headaches and such, it is also a great resource when you feel a zit coming on. Only applying to the liquid gels, split open the capsule and dab the liquid on the offending area. Because of the anti-inflammatory benefits of ibuprofen, it calms the redness and irritation that result from breakouts.
Milk:
Okay, so we probably all have milk in our fridge so why not use it for something other than your coffee and cereal? It’s a simple way to improve the look and feel of your complexion. Try mixing 1 1/2 cups brown sugar with 3 teaspoons milk and 1 teaspoon organic honey as an exfoliation scrub. The fat in the milk will help to moisturize your face, while the lactic acid will help to gently dissipate the dead skin cells that can clog your pores.
