For most people, the two words we never want to associate together are ‘hair’ and ‘oil’. But believe it or not, many people use oil as part of their regular beauty regimen for healthy hair.
From added nourishment to extra shine and body, there are many different natural oils that are jam packed with benefits for your hair. So don’t be afraid to add some oil to your hair, embrace it instead!
These natural oils will add moisture and shine to your hair, help to get rid of dandruff, aid in faster and healthier hair growth, and more. Skip that expensive salon trip and achieve beautiful, healthy hair yourself.
Coconut Oil
Not only is Coconut oil high in vitamin E and other nutrients, it also has that “vacation-on-a-tropical-island” smell we all love.
Using this oil will result in your hair becoming thicker, shiner, healthier with added stronger roots. Coconut oil also contains lauric and capric acid, which have amazing antimicrobial powers. This will make your hair and scalp healthier and prevent dandruff, itchy scalp and infections.
Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
We already know that this type of oil is ideal for cooking and topping off your salad with, but it can also be used as a deep moisturizing treatment to promote hair growth.
Opt to massage your scalp with olive oil and doing so will promote scalp health and improve circulation, while also fighting off bacteria and leaving you with softer smoother hair.
Argan Oil
Okay, so we know that argan oil is by far the most expensive natural oil, but if you ask anyone who has used it they will probably tell it’s worth every pretty penny spent.
It contains a bunch of vitamin E, Omega 3 and 9 fatty acids, and antioxidants, all of which do amazing things for damaged, dry, coarse or otherwise unmanageable hair. This stuff works miracles.
Rosemary Essential Oil
If your hair is thinning , it is not uncommon for it to hold in more dirt and unwanted toxins. Using rosemary essential oil can prevent all of that.
It is great for cleansing while it also contains loads of vitamin B, iron and calcium. For thousands of years it has been used as a remedy for thinning and brittle hair, plus it has been scientifically proven to prevent premature graying.
Avocado Oil
Avocados contain proteins, healthy fats, amino acids and vitamins A, D, E and B6 so avocado oil has the same benefits.
The proteins will help fill in damaged airs in your hair’s cuticles, and repair the damage that’s already been done then preventing future breakage and frizz. If you have medium to thick hair, avocado oil would work best for you because it is strong and thick.
Jojoba Oil
Jojoba isn’t actually an oil, it’s a liquefied wax that is extracted from a shrub native to the southwestern U.S., but it is still beneficial for you hair nonetheless.
It is high in vitamins A, E and D and is great for all hair types being found in several all-natural shampoos and hair products, but like other oils, it’s most effective on its own. Jojoba oil helps promote new, healthy hair growth by repairing damage to your hair.
Pomegranate Seed Oil
If you are a victim of thinning hair, or even just very fine locks, pomegranate seed oil can work wonder!
It contains high amounts of punicic acid, which revitalizes your hair leaving it looking thick and shiny. This kind of oil can also protect your hair against harsh chemicals and environmental damage. It’s also pretty thick and costly, but to make it last longer try mixing in so EVOO (as Rachel Ray calls it).
To apply any of these oils, massage a bit of room temperature oil to your roots and scalp. Work it down to the tips like you would with conditioner. Then put on a shower cap and let it soak in for about half an hour. After leaving it in, wash your hair using an all-natural shampoo.
