Trainer Tip: Top 3 Reasons to Try Interval Training

By Barbara Baez @BarbaraMBaez · On October 24, 2011

“I want to lose weight fast!” I hear this from many of our gym members. Everyone wants to lose weight quickly and easily, so my main weight loss advice is to do interval training and to eat right.

When I mention interval training many people still ask, “What is interval training?” Interval training is simply taking your workouts to a very high intensity, interspersed with intervals of a lighter activity or weight training activity.

None of us have time to be in the gym for hours and hours, so it’s very important that we make the most of the 45-60 minutes that we have to work out. I love giving our members a challenging 45 minute class or 30 minute session that leaves you feeling like you just accomplished a very hard workout, yet you still want to come back for more tomorrow! I believe in interval training 100%; it’s the most effective way to lose weight and to keep it off!

Here are my top 3 reasons to interval train:

1. You won’t get bored! By going through exercises quickly, minute to minute, you will be done before you know it!

2. You will burn more calories! By intensifying your workouts, you will burn more than you would by staying at the same pace.

3. You don’t need anything special to interval train! Next time you go for a run, try running for 3 minutes and then giving yourself a 1-2 minute sprint as a burst. You will find that you finish your mileage faster and burn many more calories!

If you haven’t tried interval training yet, try one of our HIIT classes at Lucille Roberts. Then, let me know what you think! Share your thoughts! I am here to help!
