The New Year means new beginnings. With that comes many broad resolutions such as wanting to lose weight or eat healthier and while these aren’t bad goals, they aren’t exactly good either. They end up being too broad, and therefore don’t generally work.
So, instead of setting unachievable goals, try implementing small action-oriented steps such as these easy to-do food swaps. Incorporate these simple substitutions into your everyday routine to help you lead a healthier life:
1. Drink water and seltzer instead of soda
Soda is basically liquid candy and a real waste of calories. Wouldn’t you prefer eating your calories instead of drinking them? I know we would! By swapping out soda for water or seltzer, you can save you hundreds of calories. If you want a pop of flavor, try adding a splash of lemon, orange, or cucumber or throw in a few fruity ice cubes.
2. Eat whole grains instead of refined grains
Grains and starches don’t need to be avoided like the plague. You can still be healthy and lose weight by eating the right kinds. Whole grains are the best choice as they are chock full of nutrients and fiber. These include brown rice, quinoa, and oatmeal instead of white bread, white rice, and white pasta. Try some of our featured healthy recipes with these nutritious grains!
3. Choose fresh fruit instead of juice
Who doesn’t love fresh fruit? Besides, juice tends to be high in sugar and low in fiber. Your best bet is eating fresh fruit because it contains more fiber than the juice and has a higher water content, both which are excellent for weight loss. If you prefer a drink, try whipping up one of our super easy weight loss smoothies.
