Did you make a New Year’s resolution? If losing weight or changing your eating habits is your goal this year, why not be smart about how you lose weight?
New Year’s resolutions should be about lifestyle changes, and shouldn’t fade within a month or two of being made. These changes require realistic goals.
Since 1996, rates of obesity in the U.S. have almost doubled. With nearly 2/3 of Americans overweight and 1/3 obese, we are obsessed with fad diets and their promises of quick weight loss and miraculous results. The revenue of the U.S. weight-loss industry is approximately $60 billion each year, but fad diets don’t work long term. Lifestyle changes should include a healthy diet, physical activity, and a support system.
The month of March is National Nutrition Month® and “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right” is the theme. While the theme changes each year, it always focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits that can last a lifetime.
Why not take some time this month to take a closer look at your eating habits? Stop by the National Nutrition Month® table at Lucille Roberts in Massapequa for free educational handouts on food, nutrition, and health tips to keep your fitness and health goals on the right path toward a healthier you.
