Many people don’t realize that consuming processed foods can be harmful to your health. This type of food has been changed from its natural state for either safety reasons or convenience. The methods of processing food can include canning, freezing, refrigeration, dehydration and others. Don’t be fooled!
By choosing to eat these processed foods with additives and other unwanted chemicals, it may lead to some added extra pounds. When you eat foods that have been preserved this way, you are actually eating fat. Among the different types of fat, Trans Fat is the worst. This is because your body cannot easily digest trans fat like it can break down REAL food. Your body ends up having to take care of the bad chemicals first rather than the fat leading that necessary weight gain.
Michael Pollan, author of many food and nutrition books including Food Rules, shares a few of his simple food rules to follow for a healthy diet:
-
If it came from a plant, eat it; if it was made in a plant, don’t.
-
Eat when you are hungry, not when you are bored.
-
Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.
-
Don’t eat breakfast cereals that change the color of the milk.
-
Do all your eating at a table.
