For some of us, our work days can be long and agonizing if we’re not in a good mood. Sometimes things occur that can knock us into an instant bad mood whether it is when you’re getting ready for the day, someone bumps into you or maybe you spilled hot coffee on your new dress. We get it.
Why not start your day off right and continue the good vibes all day by following these five tips to stay positive at work? There will be smiles all throughout the day if you can master them:
1. Eat A Good Breakfast
Yes, we all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but how many of us actually get to eat a good morning meal before work? We’re usually in a rush to get going that we just grab a granola bar and off we go. Those are fine and dandy, but that won’t help as much as a substantial meal will in the long run.
WebMD suggests eating a hearty breakfast to be at your best all day. By doing so, it will make sure that you stay full up until lunchtime. Say good-bye to irritating tummy rumbles and hunger pains! They won’t be distracting you from your work or put a downer on your mood.
2. Socialize!
Many studies have shown that negative feelings such as loneliness, anger or frustration are nurtured in isolating conditions. Don’t be a “Negative Nancy” and be that person at work who sits alone moping to themselves.
If you start to feel depressed or negative, don’t shut yourself away from your colleagues and try to deal with it yourself because they are probably feeling the same way. If it is a work based problem they may even be able to help or if it is personal, confiding in someone can work wonders.
3. Trick Yourself Into Being Happy
It’s actually really simple! When you smile and laugh, you are sending messages to your brain that you are in a good mood. So when you do this, you are trying to boost your mood sending those negative feelings way. Singing and exercise have a similar effect as they release endorphins (mood elevators).
Here at LR we have music on at all times…if a karaoke session happens then we just go for it! We know it might be inappropriate to burst into song or do some star jumps at your desk at some places, but you could always go for a jog on your lunch break or have the radio on to hum along to.
4. Take Breaks Regularly
Most of the time the source of negative emotions is exhaustion or boredom. It’s super important to avoid these feelings while you’re at work. If you feel these vibes coming on then it’s definitely time for a break.
Take a few minutes to refuel, grab a coffee, or take a short stroll and get some fresh air. You’ll see that when you return you’ll be feeling much fresher ready for another hour or so at the desk.
5. Stay Hydrated
Okay so we’ve been drilling this into your heads. We know, but you can’t deny the fact that stay hydrated throughout the day is the right way to go. If you start to feel light headed or faint, it’s time to take drink.
Taking sips of water at regular 20 minute intervals keeps your brain active and your body refreshed and hydrated. Bring a water bottle to refill throughout the day and you’ll be golden. The benefits of water are undeniable.
