A woman’s purse is sacred, no matter how many we have. We keep all the necessities inside, from 10 different lip products, expired coupons, way too many pens…I think you catch my drift.
The point is, if you’re carrying around stuff in your bag that you barely use, it’s probably adding extra weight that could end up hurting you. You don’t want those extra pens to be the reason for your back problems do you?
If you’re one of those women who’s purse looks painful to carry, here’s some advice:
Heidi Prather, a professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Washington University School of Medicine, in St. Louis says that “your bag should, ideally, weigh no more than 10 percent of your body weight or 10 pounds, whichever is less.”
To find out if your bag is too heavy, hold your purse in one hand and a gallon of milk in the other. The milk weighs around 8.3 pounds, so your bag shouldn’t be much heavier. If your purse is too heavy, try getting an organizer to put in so you’ll only carry what you need.
It’s time to “spring clean” out your bags, ladies!
