Losing the pounds to achieve the body you want is hard work! And for celebrity women who want to get fit and slim down, being in the public eye doesn’t make it any easier. Despite the scrutiny and pressure that goes along with life in the spotlight, these stars were able to shed the unwanted pounds and get on track with their new, healthy lifestyles.
Jennifer Hudson
Since her days on American Idol, Jennifer Hudson has teamed up with Weight Watchers and dropped a total of 80 pounds. After years of yo-yo dieting, failed detox programs and cleanses, Jennifer’s ah-ha moment came in 2009 when she gave birth to her son, David. “David deserved to have a mama who could run after him without getting winded or getting tired, to have a role model who could teach him to make healthy food choices,” said Jennifer in an interview with Good Housekeeping.
She started keeping a food diary, and through a flexible eating plan provided by Weight Watchers, Jennifer was still able to enjoy the foods she loved and learned portion control is key. Her new healthy lifestyle combined with regular exercise slimmed her size 16 figure down to a size 6.
Jordin Sparks
Another American Idol veteran, Jordin Sparks, recently debuted her new svelte figure having shed a total of 50 pounds. Jordin had been comfortable with her plus size figure, until she had a bout of illness in 2010. “I got really sick in the fall of 2010 right after Broadway ” Jordin told Today. “And I was just like, I am not going to take my health for granted anymore. This changes right here, right now.”
She began her journey by reevaluating her eating habits, not only what she was eating, but when and why she was eating the way she did. After a diet revamp, Jordin slowly added more exercise to her daily routine. She started walking around her neighborhood, then began hiking, and eventually joined a gym where she takes regular Zumba classes. Jordin’s realistic approach to weight loss is achievable for the average woman. “There’s no quick or magical way to lose weight.,” Jordin recently told Redbook magazine. “You just have to do it the natural way — diet and exercise and stick to it — and be able to do it at your own pace.”
Kelly Osbourne
Formerly known for her vulgar language and behavior on The Osbournes, a reality show about her family, Kelly Osbourne has not only shed her bad-girl image, but over 40 pounds as well. After years of struggling with her weight, Kelly was finally able to lose the pounds and get into killer shape during her time on Dancing With the Stars in 2009.
It was through the guidance of her dance partner, Louis van Amstel, that she learned about proper nutrition. “He made me eat turkey burgers and salads and explained to me that a high-protein, low-carb diet would keep me energized,” Kelly told Shape magazine. After her time on the show, Kelly has continued her exercise routine with regular hikes, gym sessions and plyometrics classes. She does allow the occasional indulgences, but Kelly sticks to her healthy diet to maintain her figure. “I indulge with pizza and cheese,” Kelly said. “But now, when I’m full? I stop eating! It may have taken me 26 years to figure it out, but I’ve finally learned how to do it right.”
