There’s a pile of dishes in the sink, an endless mound of laundry, you still need to make dinner—our to-do lists are never-ending it seems. Organization doesn’t come as easy for all of us, but figuring out ways to clear your schedule could benefit your physical and mental health.
If the stress-filled days aren’t motivation enough for you, these three other reasons should give you the boost you need to get organized to clear out the clutter from you life.
1. It can reduce stress. When you’re coming home to a dirty house that needs cleaning or more work, it may prevent the natural decline in cortisol that occurs over the course of the day. This can take a toll on your mood throughout the day and whether or not you get a good night’s sleep or relax. So take some extra to make your house sparkle or get ahead at work and you’ll notice a difference.
2. It can help you stay fit. Organization can make all the difference when you’re trying to stay in shape. Setting short-term goals, making a plan, and tracking your progress is a great way to stay on track. Using these useful, everyday skills can help motivate to keep exercising even when you don’t feel like it.
3. It can help you eat better. Eating well during a busy week can be tough, but it can be even harder when the kitchen is a mess or you didn’t make a grocery list. People who live and work in a neat space are more likely to choose a healthy meal or an unhealthy one. Clutter causes stress on the brain so that makes it easier for people to choose comforting foods rather than good-for-you foods.
