Long and difficult day at work? Join the club! Isn’t summer supposed to be about sipping drinks by the pool and relaxing all day?
If you’re on constant overdrive, running to work, meetings, the gym, etc., your body is bound to feel worn out and overloaded. We’ve all learned to juggle multiple responsibilities in our lives, but we can’t forget to breathe and decompress.
Give your brain and body permission to hit pause so you can relax and reboot. Here are out suggestions on how to do so:
1. Take small pauses throughout the day: Ok, we know this might sound a little crazy. You’re probably thinking: How the heck am I supposed to stop what I’m doing during a busy day? It may sound ridiculous, but setting a reminder to take a breather, look around, stretch, or whatever you have to do to calm your mind and body will actually benefit your work day. Doing so will help renew your energy to keep you charged up to finish the day!
2. Close out your day: Many of us leave the office or work place without planning for the next day’s tasks. If you just walk away from the grind, you’ll be left to deal with it all tomorrow. Take a few minutes at the end of your day to go over tomorrow’s to-do’s, make a list of how to tackle them, and/or schedule any necessary meetings or appointments. You’ll be thankful you did so in the morning.
3. Start a relaxing nighttime ritual: With all of our smartphones, tablets TVs, and other devices, it’s hard to find time to check out of our tech and find some down time. Settling down and transitioning into rest mode is easier said than done, right? We say leave your devices in another room and find something that will relax and your mind and body. It can be a warm bath, reading a book, or doing some meditative yoga.
