For October, Lucille Roberts is helping to raise awareness for breast cancer by raising funds to contribute to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, other than skin cancer. Did you know by simply being a woman you are at risk of developing breast cancer? Other factors include getting older and having a family history of breast cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, every year it is estimated that over 246,660 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.
But the good news is that death rates are decreasing, due in large part because of better screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options. This brings us to the topic of getting tested. Many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages. Ladies, it is very important for you to meet with your doctor to get screened, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer. Although there is no guaranteed way of preventing or surviving breast cancer, having an early detection will increase the chances to survive it. Screening exams, such as mammograms, can find cancers before they start to cause serious symptoms. Book an appointment with your doctor and get tested.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is dedicated to making a difference, essentially saving lives with groundbreaking research. This means they provide more answers, faster breakthroughs and treatment personalized for every patient to tackle this disease.
Unite with us and let’s finally put an end to cancer! Stop by any of our clubs and take a donation class in order to help us raise funds for this foundation. And even better – 100% of the proceeds will go towards the foundation!
