Created by Japanese scientist, Izumi Tabata, Tabata Training is a short and effective workout to torch serious calories. It is form of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) that has the ability to give you better results than the 60 minutes you spend on the treadmill or elliptical. An example of this style workout would be 20 seconds of burpees followed by 10 seconds of rest. This is repeated for 8 cycles, for a total of 4 minutes. From start to finish, we are talking about 20 minutes max.
Tabata burns approximately 14 calories per minute!
Tabata typically consists of these 7-8 cycles of high-intensity exercises. This workout follows this usual format: 20-seconds of intense bursts of an exercise followed by a 10-second rest interval. It may take at least four minutes to complete a Tabata circuit, but those four minutes may well push your body to its absolute limit. In addition, Tabata training has transformed into a workout that includes strength training with weights, plyometrics, track or treadmill sprints, cycling, jumping rope, or just about any exercise you enjoy.
