5 Ways To Beat Sugar Cravings

By Barbara Baez @BarbaraMBaez · On March 31, 2014

how to curb sugar cravings

You may want to think twice before you reach for that candy bar to help cope with your afternoon slump…

Eating a lot of simple carbohydrates without the help of proteins or fats can give your body a short-term energy boost and satisfy your hunger, but will also quickly leave you famished again and craving more. Find out how to curb those sugar cravings and keep your sweet tooth under control:

1. Combine foods

The idea of stopping at that one cookie or donut may seem impossible, but you can fill yourself up while still satisfying your sugar craving. By combining a healthy food with a bit of sweet, you can have the best of both worlds.

Try this healthy but sweet treat: Chocolate Covered Frozen Banana and Peanut Butter Bites!

2. Grab some gum

Having a pack of gum on hand is always a good idea. Research shows that chewing a stick of gum can help reduce food cravings.

3. Choose fruit

Fruit is super handy to have around when your sugar cravings hit. Whether you have an apple or pre-cut fruit to snack on, you’ll get fiber and nutrients along with some sweetness.

4. Go cold turkey

If you have the will power, try cutting out all sugary foods completely. The first 48-72 hours are the hardest, but the end result will be worth it.

5. Reward yourself

Despite what others say, it’s ok to indulge a bit. We all have our favorite go-to snacks so allowing yourself to enjoy it isn’t a bad thing, just known when to quit. You can also assign a day out the week where you can have whatever you want. Find out which celebrities love their cheat days!
