Trainer Tip: LiveRite Whey Protein Shakes for Fat Loss–and More!

By Barbara Baez @BarbaraMBaez · On September 28, 2011

Our LiveRite protein shakes are made of whey protein, and our exclusive formula is absolutely delicious! The benefits of whey protein don’t just stop at fat burning; our shakes offer a multitude of health benefits. Perhaps the question to ask is…what DON’T they do?

Vitamins and Enzymes

To begin with, our whey shakes are fortified with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. They contain vitamin C and B vitamins which will help you metabolize the calories into energy rather than stored fat. The shake’s papain and bromelain enzymes content help to reduce inflammation and muscle soreness. These enzymes also help with the breakdown and digestion of calories consumed. Our LiveRite whey protein shakes also contain lipase, which helps specifically with the breakdown of fats. Our shakes are fortified with additional vitamin E, shown to improve heart, brain, and breast health and to improve circulation and respiratory fitness.

Amino Acids

Our shakes are chock full of essential and nonessential amino acids, which really stoke your fat-burning furnace—and a whole lot more! Whey protein is considered to be the fastest-digesting protein available and is a “complete” protein, meaning it contains all of the essential amino acids—and some nonessential ones, too. Whey protein is a rich source of BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids), which are particularly effective for improving insulin sensitivity and increasing a feeling of satiety and fullness. Researchers from the University of Connecticut also found that whey protein acted as a vasodilator, meaning it increases the flow of blood to the muscles. In other words, the amino acids contained in the whey protein are getting to where they need to go, more quickly and more efficiently! That means they also will do their jobs more quickly and more efficiently. Our shakes contain tyrosine, an amino acid which has been shown to increase the level of “will to win” hormones, such as epinephrine and norepenephrine, which has receptor sites in the abdominal region. This means you will train harder and reap better results! The leucine content of our shakes stimulates the actual sculpting or toning of your muscles, known as protein synthesis. In one 12-week study, leucine also helped test subjects recover faster from fatigue.

Fat Burning

So, what exactly does why protein do for your weight loss diet? Well, for starters, just last month, the August edition of Nutrition Research reported that whey protein can help reduce belly fat! The fact that whey helps control excess insulin secretion and appetite are huge forces governing overall calorie consumption and decreasing fat storage. Other studies have shown that whey protein significantly reduces ghrelin and lowers cortisol levels. Ghrelin causes raging hunger, and cortisol can directly impact fat storage in the abdominal area. A study released in Nutrition & Metabolism demonstrated that even when calorie consumption was the same, those ingesting more whey percentages as part of a healthy meal plan lost more weight and more body fat. Perhaps the most striking of all the research I have read to date concerning whey protein and body fat loss was in the August issue of Nutrition Research, which indicated that whey protein reduced both belly and leg fat! When you mix it with low-fat or fat-free milk, you really up your fat burning potential, as milk is another complete protein. Milk’s ability to control calcitrol, your fat-storing hormone, gives this combo a fat-blasting punch!

Antioxidants

As if that isn’t enough, whey protein has been proven to strengthen antioxidant defenses, which in turn strengthen the immune system, reducing the risk of premature aging and helping against DNA breakdown! A recent study out of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center showed that whey protein may be helpful for the prevention of metabolic disorders; its ability to improve insulin sensitivity may help prevent Type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease (Journal of Nutrition, 2011).  A 12-week study published in British Journal of Nutrition in 2010 showed that whey protein even lowered triglycerides, total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol. Last but certainly not least, whey protein promotes thermogenesis—that is, increased caloric expenditure at rest (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2011). WOW!

Taste!

Can you believe the LiveRite shakes taste great, too? Enjoy our shakes as a meal or as a snack. We have lots of tasty shake recipes here on the blog. Really, the flavor possibilities are endless! Have a shake before heading out to the gym, and you will feel your energy soar. I have two shakes per day, even on my “off” days from training. Hope you enjoyed this information! I know you will enjoy our LiveRite whey protein shakes!
