With new studies coming out what seems to be like every other day about how much exercise we need and how to get it done, no wonder why we’re all so confused. One minute you only need 30 minutes three days a week and the next it’s an hour a day. And then the “experts” are telling us to try new diet fads and workouts left and right. We can barely keep up ourselves!
The thing is though, no one can really tell you why you’re not exercising but you. Do you constantly find yourself choosing to sleep in rather than waking up early to hit the gym, or skipping your spin class to binge watch your favorite show on Netflix? We feel your pain. And while many of us feel that it’s just us being lazy, it could be something more.
How many exercises or sweat sessions have you actually enjoyed in your lifetime? Sure, many of them have probably helped you lose weight or tone up (two major goals we all have), but can you say you fun while doing them? That’s the thing: no one can make you want to workout AND enjoy it. Because while you may drag yourself to the gym at 6 a.m, we’re willing to bet you’re hating it the entire time.
Finding a workout or exercise you actually enjoy is the real challenge. Ask yourself what you want to do to stay active. Is it paddle boarding, going on a hike with a friend, taking a yoga class, or something else? Your workouts don’t always need to be intense and strenuous.
Yes, sometimes you need to kick your own butt to see results, but it doesn’t need to be every single time you workout. Find something you enjoy and keep doing it, whatever it is.
