As mentioned in our previous post, September is National Leukemia and Lymphoma Awareness Month. Lucille Roberts is helping raise funds and awareness about these diseases to ensure we are all healthy and to finally say good riddance to cancer. Here we will be sharing the signs and symptoms of leukemia and lymphoma, which often get overlooked. Here is what you need to know:
Leukemia and Lymphoma result from problems with white blood cells.
Leukemia is typically a slow-moving disease, the symptoms move slowly as well. Over time, the effects of having a surplus of white blood cells coupled with decreasing numbers of red blood cells will take a toll on the body. Some common symptoms are:
- easy bruising
- bleeding
- excessive fatigue
- night sweats and fevers
- increased body infections
- headaches
Unlike leukemia, lymphoma specifically affects the lymph nodes. Some common symptoms are:
- swollen, but painless lymph nodes
- loss of appetite and weight loss
- itchy skin
- fever and night sweats
- breathing difficulties
- chest pain
- swollen, painful abdomen
- excessive fatigue
If you realize you are experiencing these symptoms and have concerns, please contact your doctor.
Also, a friendly reminder that Lucille Roberts will be raising money to aid the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research for the month of September.
